VCS Pathology is a not-for-profit organisation, and only charges patients the Medicare Schedule fee for pathology services, with only a small gap amount payable.  The gap payment is the difference between the Medicare scheduled fee and the amount rebateable by Medicare.  The gap payment may be waived for Pension or Health Care Card Holders on provision of their card number.

VCS Pathology Tests:

     

     The following information relates to services provided from 1st May 2017:

     

    Conventional Pap Tests

     
    • Free service for women residing in Victoria.
    • Tests for women residing outside Victoria can be bulk billed to Medicare if the patient signs the request form provided at the time of testing and has a valid Medicare card.
    • If the above does not apply, then the test will be privately billed and will incur a fee of approximately $34.00.

    Liquid Based Cytology only (ThinPrep)

      • Free service for women residing in Victoria.
      • Tests for women residing outside Victoria can be bulk billed to Medicare if the patient signs the request form provided at the time of testing and has a valid Medicare card.
      • If the above does not apply, then the test will be privately billed and will incur a fee of approximately $41.00.

    Conventional AND Liquid Based Cytology

    • If both tests are requested a $40.00 out of pocket fee for all women will be charged. 

    HPV Testing

    • Bulk billed to Medicare if the patient signs the request form provided at the time of testing and has a valid Medicare card, and meets Medicare eligibility criteria.
    • If the above does not apply, then the test will be privately billed and will incur a fee of approximately $72.00.

    Chlamydia Testing

    • Bulk billed to Medicare if the patient signs the request form provided at the time of testing, has a valid Medicare card, and meets the Medicare eligibility criteria.
    • If the above does not apply, then the test will be privately billed and will incur a fee of approximately $37.00.

    Histopathology

    • The test will be bulk billed to Medicare if the patient signs the request form provided at the time of testing, has a valid Medicare card, and meets Medicare eligibility criteria.
    • If the above does not apply, then the test will be privately billed and will incur a fee.
    Invoices for overseas patients may be billed directly to Allianz OSHC Worldcare on provision of a valid membership number,or BUPA OSHC on provision of a valid membership number & expiry date.
